i dig out an old rein kit under bed. It is a very cool heavy MH from FSS, before Mamoru Nagano revises all mechanical design into GTM.
however, it is too big (space killer), no schedule to setup or paint it. i.e. just sharing four photos.
This GK has movable joints, but based on its weight, i don't think it can stand properly.

not every designer has talent to balance the proportion, detail, aesthetic in mechanical design, especial for heavy mech. e.g. heavy MS in latest gundam anime are so ulgy.
so let chat FSS, GK, or other things.

seems no one interested in chatting GK or FSS. So i modify the topic of this thread into some sort of photo record of kits that  i started, but packed them back to boxes, then keep sleeping under bed for years

how about Zoids?
I haven't play the battery toys by Tonys, or watch its related animes in 90s TV. I just like its mechanical beast design and bought lots Koto HMM models. However, living space in HK really limited, can't expand display shelf unlimitedly. Hence, i stop assembling them around Dinosaur period. Now, Koto almost stopped Zoids series, replace with its own brand: HEAXGEAR, which i feel overall design, details, gimmicks not as good as Zoids...

     











do you assemble / enjoy Zoids? Or other series beside 2-leg Mecha in 80/90s?

Koto published third Kong, but i already stopped to assemble zoids, so not build yet.

when talking about long started kits, FSS not on the top of list, or close to top three.
Because I haven't buy many FSS rein kits, since most of them were published or re-casted during my childhood. And can't find good QC, reasonable price old resin kits now. So i shift target to Volks IMS series now, especial the 1/144 ver

So beside Zoids, Metal Gear + ZoE series sleep under bed for > 10 years. Both MG & ZoE are designed by Yoji Shinkawa, for Hideo Kojima 's video games. Y.S almost grown together with MGS series. Hence, I was very excited when Koto announced model kit of Rex in 2011(?). That was my first time pre-order model kits in crazy way: two boxes of Rex at the same time.. But i assemble none of them, they keep sleeping until 2021(?) i finally dig them out to paint in different color scheme.

          





This seems i finished them all? Yes, i completed "Rex", but twelve Rex already filled up the space that Zoids used before. Therefore Ray, Sahelanthropus, Jehuty & Anubis, cross over with Frame Arms, etc are still in box.

i feel current GTM like one model wear different fashion, not like previous HM has different body shape.

what design, details on GTM attract you?

this time volks has adjust the mold before scale down to 1/144 ver. some of the parts are simplified.
but the armor still ugly milky white. w/o extra & special treatment, you can't get the semi translucent result as per cover sample

beside FSS, ZOIDS, MGS/ZoE, this kind of big mecha kits. i also enjoy female figures. but w/o airbrush in the past, i can't achieve nice blending on skin/clothes.

          

     






I began to collect small figures (1/20, 1/24) after practising acrylic techniques for 2~3 years.
different from current popular 1/12 FAG / action figure kits, proportion & gimmick of 1/20, 1/24 static figures is more suitable for me.
and they are much sexy than those action figures . btw, all of them are resin kits
however, no chance, passion, schedule for me to paint some of them.

what is your first model kit in childhood? Similar to most people in HK, my first kit is gunpla.
It was a birthday present: old kit of RXF-91, from uncle in 10-year-old(?).

After that i began this hobby. Most of my kits in childhood are bandai's BB. Then, i stopped modeling around PG Wing (?).






At that moment, my favorite MS is Ex-S. After several years, I return to modeling with F1, Zoids kits.
Now my favorite Ms is changed to AoZ (series). Series? yes, series, since concept of AoZ by 藤岡建機 are modular, component, addon pack, etc.
a core fighter could keep adding components to become MS --> MA --> spaceship.
He redesigned most of the MS in b/w Zeta & ZZ in his interesting style. e.g.
Mk-II <---> TR-1
NRX-055 <---> TR6 DL2
ZZ <---> TR-6 Haze'N Thley-II
RX-0 <---> ARZ-154 BZII

However, bandai is quite late to figure out this cool concept (of recycle "same" mold multi times), and put it in "PB".
So you won't know which will be published next, which will publish again in new packing, or just publish new parts for existed MS.
This makes me no passion to continue my "AoZ ~ CC period's MS", just cut the parts, then repack back to box.

woo, both kits are published in 80s.
seems you two began modelling couple years before me.

my RXF-91 use nail clippers to cut, stick with white glue.

use 黑色 marker paint SD.


similar, i think i stopped modeling around college period.

i still spraying spray cans at staircase well (it has natural ventilation).

during childhood, beside BB/SD, i bought AFV once. It maybe an EU(?) poor QC train. And w/o required techniques, i even can't OOB it, so threw away.
However, after i changed to acrylic paints, practice with miniatures for 2~3 years, and watched YT trailers. i got poisoned with 1/72 AFV.
I think major reasons are i very like painting camo, trying weathering, and 1/72 are tiny.





it looks like i keep painting / sharing AFV, but there still some kits i bought but no mood / space to paint them.
Most of them are long, really long, or space killer level...

i not sure how typical modeler in HK to store their kits (some have extra room full of kits, some rent storage in industrial building).
for me, i 99% would cut the parts and throw the box, since i won't resell them.
most of the situation, it could reduce 80% of space.

Frame Arms is a special series by Koto,
it changes the unbalance situation of sci-fi modeling in Japan.
provide modelers more choices than boring / repetitive bandai's gunpla.
and it further develops into FAG, another successful series that Bandai also want to clone too...

EVA shall be the first anime (beside gunpla) I enjoyed in childhood.
I bought its comics, CD, VCD, puzzles, artbooks, etc. It is a big money for children.

Miniatures shall be my most wasting money kits since they are small is size
a box of one character (i.e. one chess, similar to Tamiya enamel paint bottle) always cost 2~300dollars.
only chritmas or starter boxset are reasonable price... Therefore, i buy much less now.
However, miniatures also the reason I changed to use acrylic paints. And it helps developing my painting techniques, style a lots.












all of them are packed in pill bags.
     

i also have a milk bottle for some 1/35 figures.


this metal chess are included in Civ5 (PC game).







Blood Angels is my favorite faction.
     

Tau Empire is my second favorite.


you could see the level of details for miniatures is triple to common sci-fi kit.

i got my EVA for 2023.
this won't be under bed series.
but not plan to post WIP, so share in here.

much bigger + better than i think.
similar to small MG-box size, and the EVA-02 is higher than koto's 1/400 ver.
molding, QC, details are up to level. However Kaiyodo not common in HK, local shops markups too much.
HK$ 40X (7150yen, amazon.jp) is reasonable price for me.
