Lamborghini Diablo SE30

To celebrate Lamborghini's 30th year as a road car manufacturer, a special edition Diablo called the SE30 was offered in 1993. Motivation for the series came from motor sport homologation and, upon release, a sister Jota car was presented which showcased the specific upgrades that made the SE30 suitable for GT-championship races.

This eligibility meant the SE30 was the sportiest supercar Lamborghini had made in quite some time: it reached 207mph (333 kph) flat out and 0-60 in four seconds. To obtain these figures, almost every aspect of the Diablo's engineering was reconsidered.

Outwardly, the SE30 kept most of the standard Diablo lines except subtle details such as a deep front spoiler with supplementary driving lights, twin-duct side intakes, an engine hood which mimicked the one on the Miura supercar and ultra-light magnesium wheels. While most of the body remained in aluminum, these new pieces were constructed in carbon fibre.

Power to the 18 inch rear wheels was fed by an upgraded engine which used magnesium castings, modified cylinder heads, Lamborghini's LIE electronic injection and a free-flow exhaust system. This meant the SE30 benefited from 525 bhp on tap and a weight reduction of 275 lbs (125 kgs). The only electronic aid which helped owners keep their sanity was a switchable traction control; gone was the automatic height adjustment, ABS and power assist steering.

Inside, the interior was purposeful and came Alcantara leather, carbon fiber accents, white dials and aluminum pedals. A four-point harness kept the occupants pinned in their highly-bolstered cabon fibre seats. With features like twin controls to adjust the rigidity of the front and rear anti-roll bars, the SE30 was a serious contender. Unforgiving upgrades such as fixed Plexiglas windows, no air conditioning, radio delete and an automated fire extinguisher system only reinforced its enthusiast nature.

Unfortunately, the original motorsport intent for the SE30 never took off. Around 150 examples were made and less than 15 came with Jota upgrades. The last car was constructed in Novemeber of 1995 and went to a middle-east dealer with white bodywork.

Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evolution I (Martini 5)

The first Evolution cars were built at the end of 1991 and through 1992, these were to be the final Homologation cars for the Rally Team, the Catalytic Evolution II was never to be rallied by the Factory.

In order to improve the handling, the vehicles had a wider track front and rear, to enclose this track in the bodywork the wide arches were extended even further, in the process they also became more rounded and the wings were made in a single pressing, previously they had been fabricated. The front strut top mounts were also raised in the quest for more grip this then required a front strut brace to control the forces thus generated.

External changes included: new grilles in the front bumper to improve the air intake for engine compartment cooling, the bonnet was also redesigned and new lateral air slats assisted this better ventilation. An adjustable roof spoiler was added above the tailgate to assist in competition and to emphasise the cars sporty lines. New 5 bolt wheels derived from the rally cars were added, these are stronger than the previous wheels. Finally the rear view of the car changed with only one exhaust pipe now showing.

The chassis also makes no changes to a tried and trusted configuration: -
MacPherson-type independent suspension at front with lower wishbones
anti-roll bar
segmented dampers and connection rod between the two domes
MacPherson-type independent suspension at rear with transverse rods
longitudinal transversal reaction struts
roll bar and segmented dampers
4 disc brakes with double cylinder calipers at front
floating calipers at rear
split crossover hydraulic circuit with power brake and brake power modulator
    on rear wheels
standard ABS
rack and pinion steering with servo.

The new Integrale retained the four wheel drive layout: - epicyclic centre diff with torque splitter (47% to front, 53% to rear) and Ferguson viscous coupling, - Torsen rear differential.

The engine though technically the same 16V, was remapped to give 210 bhp at 5750 rpm to compensate for the cars slight increase in weight and frontal area, this kept the performance figures virtually unchanged

The above improvements were aimed at and did change the cars' handling potential, the car was able to travel 5-6% faster on the rally sections, both on tarmac and gravel and thus, give even greater confidence to the driver when driven in normal road conditions.

Interior trim was now Grey Alcantara as standard covering the same Recaro seats as in the 16V cars, Leather and Air Conditioning was offered, as an option. The interior was finished with a new anotomic grip gear lever and leather covered Momo steering wheel.

There were a number of these cars built to meet Swiss regulations that were equipped with an 8valve catalytic engine giving 165bhp, they are a little underpowered for weight of the car.

Martini 5
400 Evolution I cars built in 1992, White in colour with Martini decals, bonnet grills, rear spoiler finished in black. Inside there were big Recaro seats in Black Alcantara with red stitching and red seat belts. The car was fitted with White 15 inch wheels

TO-54902H started out life as a 1988 official Abarth eight valve works Martini car its first event was the Tour de Corse in 1988, it finished 3rd overall, driven by Bruno Saby and was closely followed by a 4th overall on the 24hr de Ypres in ESSO colours piloted by Tabaton.

It was sold off to Race Motorsport who upgraded the car to Integrale 16V specification, and it ran in white, with white red and green livery.

Race Motorsport sold the car to So.Ge.Spo who reliveried the car to white with red and blue, it was driven by Scrollini and Grava.

The car was then sold to Jolly club who transformed the car to full Integrale “DELTONA” specification with evolution body by CECOMP in late 1992. This series of upgrades meant the car was no the ultimate Gro A racer.

Driven by both Carlos Saints and Andre Aghini in 1993 in “Repsol” colours and to 1993 WRC Cataluyna spec. This was to be its final year on which it competed on the WRC stage.

1994 saw TO 54902H being sold yet again this time to Tam.Auto who kept he car in Repsol colours but without the Repsol logos. Driven again by Andrea Aghini it was very successful have a number of victories running in the Italian home championship.

The year 2000 and the car found its way to the UK and into the hands of Steve Smith the owner of “Walkers Garage” a final and trouble free outing on the Rally Great Britain, the last WRC event the Intergrale was eligible for, and it was sold onto Mike Rimmer.

Now returned to its 1993 “Repsol” asphalt specification. A complete nut and bolt restoration has been carried out, nothing has been left untouched from a full stripping of the shell to complete refurbishment of every individual item.

Most recently the car has run at the 2005,06 and 07 Goodwood Festival of Speed
