Yeah! I couldn’t agree more! It’s seems that there are a lot of choice for photography newcomers, but on the other hand, things never been easier for them as they only need to choose the color & design, the features of those DC of similar price range are basically the same (thanks to the nice work done on marketing research)! It’s no problem should you choose a “wrong” DC as you can always switch to a new one, like switching to a new mobile phone, I have friends changing new mobile phones every now and then, no sweat!
Buying a DSLR is another story, it not the camera that kills you, it’s the lens and accessories! You are actually investing on a photographic system. If you have no intention to expand the DC system, at least in the near future, may be you don’t need to buy a DSLR, though it’s not a bad thing to have one! It’s men’s toy after all!
In the old days before the digital era, you start learning photography with the basic equipment and moving up as your interest and knowledge grown, it’s quite effective, at least to me! Perhaps technology are moving too quickly and prices have fell to a level that most people can afford to buy expensive equipment at the starting point! This jump start may be good, but not for everyone, some people may tend to ignore the basics and believe that the equipment can “fill-in-the-blank” for them!
I am really happy to see someone will bring up this subject and share the basic photography techniques, it’s helpful not just for amateurs, but for everyone who would like to enhance the quality of their pictures, THANKS!
My last conventional camera brought is the Canon EOS 5. Canon 5D is my ALL TIME dream DC as I can use my existing lens but it’s so e-x-p-e-n-s-i-v-e!
