The sides were done using "layering". The technique consists of the following steps: paint, seal, worn effect, paint, wash off.
For example, base color > seal > worn effect > rust color > wash off > seal > worn effect > grey color > wash off > seal . You can do the same with the different rust colors, but I was lazy for the most part. I use 4 different vallejo rust colors and 2 different base color for this built.
The different rust colors were applied using a small piece of sponge. I didn't use layering for the wheels and you can see the effect is slightly different.
The "worn effect" seems to give a grainier look, whereas the "heavy chipping" the paint just flake off.
