Buddy Club DC5
Some people lead, and some people follow. For the leaders, the task is simple. Stay ahead of the pack. The path to leadership isn’t easy and sometimes the fight gets the better of the competitor, and they falter. However, those who persevere shall live to stay and fight another day. Buddy Club fought, and made their way through the haters, and the biters, and now they are the leaders of the pack, the hunted for many who will try and fail to meet the water mark achieved by them.
The DC5 is a heavy hitter right out of the box, no matter what challenges you throw at it. Enter Buddy Club, a manufacturer known for its fantastic racing parts, for engines and wheels as well. Buddy Club decided that they needed a new car to race in GT class racing, and decided to throw the best it had at this beast.
The stock DC5 makes approx 220 hp at the flywheel is stock trim, but stock this car is not. The team that Buddy Club put together decided to swap out the pistons for some 13:1 units, forged connecting rods, and Their own Spec III cams and then; for fun ported the heck out of the head and balanced and blueprinted the K20 between the rails of this race track terror. Mugen was called upon for their fuel delivery system. The team again wanting to use as many of their own in house pieces added a P1 spec racing exhaust. All of these mods created almost 259 whp. All the power would be rendered completely useless without an absolutely bulletproof transmission. Accepted thinking was that the stock Honda box, just wasn’t going to be up to the task at hand, so the assembled team at Buddy Club, and M tec placed a call in to Xtrac for a 6 speed sequential gearbox for seamless gear changes, and the least likelihood of broken gear boxes littering the paddock.
Buddy Club also manufactures racing spec suspensions for many of today’s fastest race cars, so who better to set the handling abilities of this car to max, then themselves. Buddy Club P-1 Racing Dampers with Custom spring rates, race-specified valving, pillow ball upper mounts, and remote reservoirs, plus Mugen sway bars took an otherwise phenomenal handling car up a notch. Suspension is only part of the equation when looking to make any car handle better. When racing at this level, in any form, the chassis flex can be your worst enemy, or your best friend. M-Tec, a company that is Mugen reborn, so to speak was called in to supply the FIA Super 2000 spec roll cage among many other components. Jun San Chen, as the lead driver for Buddy Club, and owner of a company in the Asian markets that distributes both brands, getting the 2 companies to work together was simple feat. Roll cages do more than just add chassis stiffness; they also protect the driver in the event that the unthinkable happens. Along the same line a fuel cell with dry break fueling connectors add to the safety of the driver as well. Brembo 13-inch brake upgrade with four piston calipers help slow the car down post haste in case the driver needs to avoid a collision or just simply scrub off some speed before apexing the corner. Keeping the car planted at the extreme velocity that is intended are a set of 17-inch Buddy Club P-1 Racing QF wheels with Michelin road racing slicks, so stick shouldn’t be a problem.
So now the team at Buddy Club, and M tec had pieced together one of the most functional race cars on the circuit, but it was still kind of boring in the looks department. Mooncraft to the rescue, in the form of a Mooncraft prototype WTCC Super 2000 body kit. Wider where it needs to be, and smoothed to inth degree. This car screams fast, no matter if you’re looking at the outside or under the hood. The paint work is exquisite as are the graphics, if this car moves around the track as fast as it looks, look for it to be a real contender on the circuit!
